Special Education Teacher

What you will do:

  • Provide instruction, with the support of the Educational Technicians, to support learning within 1:1 and small group settings
  • Prepare lessons and educational activities specifically designed to meet the goals and objectives of each IEP and ensure that materials are available and organized when needed
  • Participate in transition planning; arrange and support student transitions to their next placement and coordinate information related to educational needs and services with the sending and receiving school or institution

Responsibilities

  • Monitor student progress through collecting and analyzing data and provide required reports on student progress in a timely manner
  • Organize and oversee the duties of classroom staff to ensure the provision of an effective, orderly, and student-focused classroom environment
  • Meet regularly with classroom staff to ensure consistency in implementation and to address questions/concerns in a timely manner

Required Minimum Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs) – “What you will need”:

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in special education or related field required. Master’s degree preferred.
  • License/Certifications: Maine Department of Education: Certification 282 – Teacher of Children with Disabilities.
  • Experience: 1+ year of teaching experience with children with developmental disabilities.
