Summary

  • Position Summary
    • Under general supervision, the Certified Athletic Trainer provides direct patient care in the Sports Medicine Department to include athletic training related services and athletic development when appropriate.   The Certified Athletic Trainer reports to the Manager of Sports Performance/Athletic Training.  Job responsibilities will include areas related to athletic training, concussion management, community outreach and development of future related programs.
    • The Certified Athletic Trainer will function as a liaison between the Sports Medicine Department and contracted athletic training service sites.  This will ensure superior patient related care is delivered.
  • Required Minimum Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs)
    • Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Athletic Training required (graduation from accredited program); Master’s degree in Athletic Training or similar program preferred.
    • License/Certifications: CPR/AED certification (BLS) through the American Heart Association required; Certification in Athletic Training (ATC) through the NATA Board of Certification required; Maine State Athletic Trainers’ License required; Certification as a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist through the NSCA preferred.
    • Experience: 1-3  years of experience as a Certified Athletic Trainer is preferred. Experience in teaching and preparing instructional material preferred.
    • Requires a high level of interpersonal skills necessary to work effectively with clients and the community, which includes instruction and motivation of such persons.
    • Requires analytical ability necessary to assess exercise tests, assess for athletic development programs and proper documentation.
    • A minor amount of travel related to athletic training contract sites and various community outreach events will be required to meet the needs of the position.
