Summary

Education Technician Partial Hospital Program

 

Under the supervision of the Special Education Teacher and the Clinical Director of the Autism and Developmental Disorders Partial Hospital Program, the Special Education Technician III works as a member of the education and behavioral treatment team of the Partial Hospital Program to provide designated instructional services to meet the academic, behavioral and daily living needs of our students. The partial hospital program is housed at Spring Harbor Hospital and provides a 6 hour treatment, 5 days a week, for youth with autism and developmental disorders who are having emotional or behavioral challenges.

What you will do:

  • Introduce, review and reinforce new learning preplanned with the classroom teacher or appropriate content specialist to individual or small groups of students
  • Plan and implement social skills and/or fine arts groups with indirect supervision from the classroom teacher or content specialist
  • Work collaboratively with a multidisciplinary team which includes psychiatrists, nurses, psychologists, behavior analysts, social workers, occupational therapists, speech and language pathologists, physical therapists, and special education teachers
  • Collect academic and behavioral data; enter and analyze data relevant to the student’s educational plan and adjust lessons as required

Responsibilities

  • Communicates effectively and positively with all internal and external customers.
  • Provide instructional services and behavioral treatment to meet the required needs of the student.
  • Help children learn new ways of coping with challenges
  • Support student in increasing their communication and independence.

Required Minimum Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs) – “What you will need”:

  • Education: 90 credit hours required. Post high school study in educationally related field preferred.
  • License/Certifications: Certification from the Maine Department of Education with a minimum of 90 credits in approved study
  • Experience: 2+ years of experience working with children or youth with developmental disorders, mental health disorders, and/or behavior problems in school, hospital, or residential setting
