TVI's in Maine are itinerant and follow a school year calendar. The TVI's provide direct and consultative services to children with or without additional disabilities birth through age 21 or completion of high school. Services include instruction and consultation in all areas of the expanded core curriculum.
We work in homes, daycares, public, and private schools. Though Maine is a geographically large and rural state, we have a very supportive community of TVI's in Maine, all who are employed by Catholic Charities Maine. Salary is based on experience and qualifications.
Qualifications: The successful candidate will hold a college degree (Bachelors or Masters) in teaching students with a visual impairment. Must meet state of Maine certification requirements. TVIs must be good strong communicators and willing to work as a team. They must be able to demonstrate strong braille skills or a willingness to develop those skills including UEB for technical. Knowledge of the implications of vision loss on education is essential.
