With numerous and diverse programs providing services to people experiencing homelessness, hunger, and poverty in Maine, Preble Street is a dynamic, innovative, and progressive nonprofit organization with nearly 300 staff who work every day to fulfill the agency’s mission.

Preble Street is seeking a Vice President of Human Resources (VPHR) to plan and oversee the Agency's HR strategy, including workforce planning and development, employee relations, labor relations, compensation and benefits, staff training, and risk management. The VPHR ensures that HR practices and policies comply with legal requirements, accord with best practices, and are in alignment with Preble Street's mission, values, and diversity, equity, and inclusion efforts. In addition to oversight of the HR team and function, as a member of Agency leadership, the VPHR is a key participant in strategic planning for the organization.

This position also requires an understanding of the work of the agency, Preble Street's social justice mission, commitment to providing administrative services in support of the mission, and commitment to efforts and initiatives to further diversity, equity, and inclusion in our workforce and services.

Candidates with a combination of hands-on human resources work experience and relevant education and training likely to provide the knowledge, skills, and abilities to be successful in the position are encouraged to apply; among the preferred qualifications are relevant education (a graduate degree in business or law preferred); experience in human resources leadership and management; significant knowledge of employee benefits administration and U.S. and Maine employment and labor laws and regulations; staff supervision and management experience; SHRM certification; and social services/nonprofit experience. Experience with labor relations/management and engagement with a unionized workforce preferred.

The VPHR works onsite during regular business hours, with some schedule flexibility and hybrid schedule options available. Please note that this is not a fully remote position.
