Job Description

Summary

  • Position Summary
    • Position is responsible for assisting in surgical operations as part of a team under the supervision of surgeons, registered nurses, or other surgical personnel.
  • Required Minimum Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs)
    • Education: High school diploma preferred. Surgical technologist training from an accredited school or hospital.
    • License/Certifications: Successful completion of Surgical Technician certification exam.
    • Experience: Two years of experience preferred but not required. Experience working with computers.
    • Knowledge of anatomy, physiology, microbiology, pharmacology, professional ethics, and medical terminology.
    • Knowledge of safety, infection control, and quality improvement protocols.
    • Skill in operating surgical equipment including both sterile and non-sterile equipment.
    • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills necessary for interacting with patients, physicians, supervisors and other staff.
    • Skill in staying abreast of new developments.
    • Ability to respond quickly in order to have instruments and other sterile supplies ready for surgeons without being instructed.
    • Ability to remain emotionally stable, conscientious, and orderly to handle the demands of the operating room environment.
    • Ability to maintain confidentiality.
