General Description

The Electrical Maintenance Technician will be responsible for the installation, troubleshooting and maintenance of electrical components within asphalt plants and aggregate crushing facilities. To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each Key Duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. Key Duties

  • Installation, troubleshooting, and maintaining PLC's, HMI interfaces, motors, drives, other electrical components.
  • Test and repair of various electrical equipment.
  • Program and modify PLC systems.
  • Assist in facility startup and new equipment installations.
  • Involvement in the planning and execution of new wiring installations or upgrades.
  • Work with facility staff and mechanical department to create more operator friendly and robust systems.
  • Perform audits and PM routines.
  • Ability to effectively work within and maintain company safety standards and policies.
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualification Requirements

  • Education and Experience. This position is not typically an entry-level role as it requires previous experience as an Electrical Maintenance Technician.
    • An associates degree in industrial electrical technology is preferred, or at a minimum experience troubleshooting electrical/mechanical systems, or be actively enrolled in an electrical program.
    • Must have a safety and quality focused mindset.
    • Journeyman or Master Electrician license is preferred.
    • Familiarity with PLC Systems, reading ladder logic, and the ability to interpret wiring diagrams.
    • Experience with Automation Direct or Allen-Bradley PLC's preferred.
    • Basic computer skills and familiarity with Microsoft Office software (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
    • Must be familiar with and understand National Electric Code standards.
    • Strong verbal and written communication skills and ability to work independently or in a team environment.
    • Willingness to learn new processes and ability to teach facility personnel.
  • Physical Demands. The following physical demands are representative of those that must be met by an Electrical Maintenance Technician to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
    • Constant physical effort, including standing, is required during a regular work shift of at least eight hours per day. Employee must be able to stand for extended periods of time, stoop, bend, and crouch as required to perform Key Duties.
    • Frequently work with hands extended overhead, sometimes in conjunction with the operation of hand power tools.
    • Ability to lift and carry at least 50 pounds independently or more with assistance
    • Manual dexterity to handle electrical equipment/materials, power tools, and hand tools.
    • Physical dexterity involving stretching, proper placement of legs, and use of arms and hands in repetitive motions.
    • Maintain constant alertness to the multiple concurrent activities of the construction site or asphalt plant, including the activities of other employees and contractors, the operation of stationary equipment, and the movement of mobile equipment.
    • Frequently walk on uneven surfaces, including natural ground in varying weather conditions.
    • Capable of being certified to enter confined spaces, using ladders or crawling, as required.
    • Sufficient skill and visual acuity, under varying degrees of light, darkness, and weather conditions.
  • Work Environment. The work environment characteristics described below are representative of those that an Electrical Maintenance Technician encounters while performing the essential functions of this job.
    • Work is performed indoors and outdoors in all weather conditions.
    • Must be able to work flexible and long hours as required.
    • Work environment periodically exposes the employees to high levels of noise, grease, and dust that is typically associated with a construction site.
    • Employee regularly works near heavy equipment and moving machinery.
    • Work may involve a variety of substances commonly found on a construction site such as oil, grease, curing compounds, gasoline, diesel fuel and asphalt.

    • Assess work environment for possible hazards and makes sure training is adequate to perform work.
    • Has proper personal protective equipment and tools, uses them appropriately for the given task.

    • Identifies and turns in near miss reports
    • Asks for help, when needed, to perform tasks safely.
    • Considers if there is a safer way to perform work and communicates.
