Job Description

The O'Connell lab is seeking a Bioinformatician I to develop algorithms and computational resources to analyze and interpret research and clinical data. The Bioinformatician will work with the PI to understand biomedical questions, develop algorithmic approaches to address them and to implement the approaches in scripts or programs. They will focus on the development and implementation of methods to analyze and integrate genetic, transcriptomic, and phenotypic data from genetically diverse mouse populations that model aging and age-related neurodegenerative diseases such as Alzheimer's and related dementia.

Key Responsibilities

  • Work under close supervision with lab members to analyze transcriptomic and phenotypic datain their relevant biological context.
  • Contribute to the experimental design of new projects
  • Presentation of algorithms and results in scientific conferences and publications.

Qualifications

  • BS degree in Bioinformatics or relevant sciences degree + five years of professionalbioinformatics work experience or MS degree in Bioinformatics or relevant biological sciencesdegree.
  • Software engineering experience.
  • Experience with R. Other programming languages such as Python and Rust is a plus.
  • Experience with algorithm development in areas such as machine learning, genomics, and/or statistics.
  • Ability to read scientific literature in fields related to current projects. Knowledge of genetics is a plus.
  • Ability to lead projects/processes, working independently with limited supervision.

The salary range is $63,744 - $106,723. Salary will be determined based on qualifications and experience.
