In Vivo Technologist III - Surgical/Injection Specialist, RDTC

The Rare Disease Translational Center is seeking a motivated, detail oriented full time In Vivo Tech III focused on in vivo Surgeries and Injections to join our team at The Jackson Laboratory in Bar Harbor, Maine. The successful candidate will be working with a dynamic team to support all aspects of the research, including performing various surgical techniques, along with specialized injections. The candidate will also be responsible for training other technicians in these various techniques, along with validating new procedures and implement new equipment & processes to improve quality and throughput of established procedures.

The Rare Disease Translational Center supports the overall mission of The Jackson Laboratory: To discover precise genomic solution for disease and empower the global biomedical community in the shared quest to improve human health. The RDTC works directly with foundations and their associated teams of basic and clinical researchers to generate custom mouse models with clinical mutations to treat and cure rare disease. This position is an exciting opportunity to work directly with the Center in supporting this mission.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform all basic, advanced, and specialized biomethods at the highest level of quality. Serve as the exemplary point of contact for demonstration and audits. Assist in new method development.
  • Proficient in various surgeries including brain cannulation and brain device implantation
  • Proficient in various mouse injection techniques, including adult & neonatal ICV, adult & neonatal intrathecal, intravitreal, retinal injection a plus. In utero injection techniques a plus.
  • Validation of new injection techniques
  • Train new hires as well as junior staff on all the aspects associated with select surgeries and injection techniques
  • Document new procedures as SOPs and/or routine procedures. Works with the Senior Manager to produce external-facing collateral for new procedures.
  • Support the technician team with other non-surgical/injection study tasks, as needed

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's Degree required, years of experienced considered as well in combination with other degrees.
  • Possess a strong attention to detail and patience and flexibility to adjust teaching approaches and techniques to train and mentor junior staff members.
  • Demonstrated advanced animal handling experience and ability to perform a variety of biomethods such as dosing, animal necropsy and tissue collection.
  • Ability to develop new procedures i9n collaboration with the veterinary staff.
  • Proven experience using multiple technical applications including word processing, database management, spreadsheets, graphics and presentation software, email and other office technologies.
  • Successful proven record of written and oral communication skills sufficient to permit clear and effective exchange of information
  • Excellent organizational skills and demonstrated ability to manage details accurately
  • Demonstrated team player with professional, positive attitude and willingness to be flexible

Pay Range: $26.65 - $44.62
