Job Description

Summary

  • Position Summary
    • Reporting to the Director of Spiritual and Pastoral Services, the call chaplain provides specialist level expertise in assessing and addressing the emergent spiritual and existential needs of patients, families and staff through the provision of comprehensive spiritual screening, assessment and interventions, including pastoral counseling and crisis intervention, consultation, education, and support. The call chaplain models and collaborates with the treating teams in respecting and providing cultural, emotional and spiritual/religious competent patient and family-centered care. The call chaplain practices evidence-based care, performs care services and functions with benchmarked standards for patient care and productivity and takes responsibility for continued professional development. Care is for all people, call chaplains do not proselytize.
  • Required Minimum Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs)
    • Education: Preferred: a Bachelor's degree, a master's level theological degree or equivalent, clinical training in chaplaincy, ordination or commissioning for ministry by a recognized religious group, a current endorsement for chaplaincy by a recognized religious/spiritual group. ACPE Clinical Pastoral Education, at least one unit preferred.
    • License/Certifications: N/A
    • Experience: At least one year health care chaplaincy preferred.
    • Ability to work sensitively and competently with diverse cultural and ethnic groups.
    • Excellent oral and written communication skills, including documentation in the medical record.
    • Ability to be self-directed in creative problem solving, systems planning and patient care.
    • Demonstrates a working knowledge of ethical and legal issues in health care.
    • Demonstrates and models the ability to maintain one's own resilience and support the resilience of the interdisciplinary care team through appropriate activities for sustainable practice.
    • Demonstrates a working knowledge of the care options upon discharge from inpatient care, including advanced illness management in the home, hospice, and skilled nursing.
    • Compliant with HIPPA regulations for patient confidentiality. Travel between site locations required.
